Engine provides actors who don’t take breaks
Toronto, August 09, 2007 - Starting September 4, 2007, Toronto-based Mobile Jam Fest (MJF), the world’s largest youth creativity festival, will announce a new creativity challenge every eight weeks. Challenges will be in the areas of fashion, film, music, photography, MDG and machinima.
The UK’s groundbreaking Moviestorm will sponsor the new Machinima category. The sponsorship includes a free beta version and content packs for all MJF registrants, online machinima tutorials, and a new Machinima challenge every eight weeks.
Machinima, the technique that underpins Moviestorm, is an emerging new media form that uses a videogame engine to produce 3D animation faster, cheaper, and more easily than ever before. Machinimators create footage by manipulating characters within a 3D world, just as they do in games, and recording their actions.
Moviestorm offers ultra-low budget movie-making in a complete package. It takes users from initial concept to finished movies. Easy to use, it makes animation accessible for first time film-makers, while its advanced features make it suitable for pro-am users.
"Moviestorm is the first dedicated movie-making tool based on machinima, it uses the same technology that powers modern computer games." said Ann Garner Director of Marketing at Short Fuze. "People are making movies with The Movies and The Sims, but these are still games, whose tools and features are not specifically designed for use by film-makers. People are telling us that although they like the games, mainly they just want to make movies. Moviestorm gives the user more freedom by not having to follow pathways laid down by the game."
"This interactive, virtual tool puts the power of all aspects filmmaking right at the click of a button. It allows all users to learn new techniques and to become involved in MJF" said Craig Goodwill, Executive Director of MJF.
